If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?That question marked the beginning of this blog. I was sitting out in the backyard with a book called Voyages of Discovery by Tony Rice reading the foreword, and in that moment I wished more than anything that I could be magically transported to the Natural History Museum in London and allowed to roam the museum at my leisure.
Unfortunately I come from a poor background and I live in New Zealand, so such a visit is not currently an option. Then it occurred to me that with so many digital resources that while I cannot physically visit such places I can satisfy my endless, and eclectic, curiosity by digitally exploring what I cannot visit in person or own.
Thanks to an increasing range of digital resources, and wonderful people and organizations that share imagery via a Creative Commons license, I can explore the world I can only reach from my computer. So here I am, ready to explore and share whatever tickles my curious and fickle fancies.
This blog is my digital curiosity cabinet.
I'm a rather scatterbrained personality and a scanner personality, so my fascinations tend to jump all over the place. I like that, but it means this blog will likely deviate from the norm in the sense of topics covered. I will not focus on one area but wherever my mind takes me on a particular day, or week, or month.
I have no academic background in the arts and sciences, or pretty much anything. I'm simply a curious critter who finds herself constantly in awe of the world, be it places, history, art, popular culture, and so on. This blog exists to both store, and share, that which piques my interest and I think deserves to be collected and shared. Basically that means I'll be sharing anything from historical art to my favourites from lolcats to things I find creepy in a largely disorganized fashion.
I try where possible to use creative commons imagery and other common sharing options that are generally accepted to be okay and/or fair use. I make an effort not to disrespect copyright and only seek to share the work of others because what they have created has inspired me. If you have any issues or concerns please feel free to contact me via email.
